Healthy Habits in the New Year

Last updated: Jan 03, 2019

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that in the United States 4.7% of cancers in men and 9.6% of cancers in women are caused by excess body weight. This is especially true for breast cancer where the increase incidence is caused by an excessive production of estrogen in overweight women that persists even after menopause.

Maintaining a normal body weight is a struggle for everybody, including many people who are not overweight, but the health benefits can be tremendous!

One other potential dietary intervention to reduce cancer in general and breast cancer in particular, may be the addition of organic foods to your diet. French researchers showed that higher organic food consumption is associated with a reduction in the risk of cancer but most importantly a reduction in postmenopausal breast cancers and lymphomas.

Don’t go at it alone! It’s always best to have a good coach, so perhaps consider contacting one of our Weight Management specialists at Summit Medical Group to help you start living healthier in 2019.
