New PET/CT Scanner

Last updated: Nov 13, 2017

Offering patients increased confidence in the treatment of cancer and other diseases.

At Summit Medical Group, our efforts are directed on making our patients treatments as quick and safe as possible. We offer the most modern treatments available based on indications from the most advanced cancer detection technology. We are excited to announce the addition of our state of the PET/CT scanner,  a highly sophisticated imaging technique that actually combines two scans during a single exam: a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan that shows the body’s physiologic changes and a Computed Tomography (CT) scan that shows the structure of the anatomy where the changes are taking place. Combining these two images provides detailed information to physicians about the presence or spread of disease and accurately identifies its precise location.

PET/CT is commonly used to diagnose, stage, and/or restage a variety of types of cancer including breast, colorectal, esophageal, melanoma, lymphoma, lung, colorectal, head and neck, and cervical cancer. It can be used to monitor tumor response to treatment during the planned course of therapy, or in non-invasive cardiac diagnosis and stroke assessment

  • Provides a complete picture of what is happening in the body and can help physicians accurately diagnose many types of disease at earlier stages
  • A non-invasive test whose accuracy may help more accurately localize disease and aid in therapy planning.
  • Combines two tests into one, which may reduce the number of tests a patient needs and significantly reduce medical costs
  • Provides a clear assessment of response to treatments
  • Utilizes widest opening on the market (78 cm/30 inches), removing the risk of claustrophobia for patients while maintaining the ultimate level of safety.

Our radiologists and technologists have been specially trained in the use of this new equipment to fully optimize its benefits.

We offer PET/CT Scan at our Berkeley Heights campus.
